The Break-In free essay sample

Sitting in front of the TV and giggling with my companion Cara while in my parents’ room, I thought it was by all accounts a goodbye. The day had been long, and we were depleted, having sore feet from shopping prior that day. Out of nowhere, and out of the blue the uproarious shrieking of the thief alert sounded the house. Never again was I considering rest or the throbs in my feet, yet the dread of what was to come straightaway. My mother unearthed the live with my sister, and some way or another constructed the solidarity to move the gigantically substantial dresser over the door.Cara and I, understanding this was not a joke, got frightened for the entirety of our lives. At that accurate second, I never figured I would beat the recently created dread of theft. The force in the room rose as I heard my canine yelping from ground floor. My sister got the home telephone with her shaking hand. We will compose a custom paper test on The Break-In or on the other hand any comparable subject explicitly for you Don't WasteYour Time Recruit WRITER Just 13.90/page She dialed 911. The anxious strain in my body was discharged by hauling my free infant tooth out. My mother, freezing, called my Dad to get back home from work. Cara and I lay still in the bed incapable to show feeling in our faces as a result of the stun. We as a whole heard clamors for the duration of the hour of the occasion which gradually went to a base. Sitting in the room, I possessed such a great amount of energy for unwelcoming contemplations to race through my brain. I started contemplating how perilous and hazardous this truly was. I felt just as I wouldn’t ever defeated this challenging night. Finally the police showed up, and started looking around the house for pieces of information of the attack or to really discover the intruder his/herself. The power noticeable all around was still upon us. We hadn’t known whether the intruder had a firearm or not. What was the intruder equipped for doing? Inevitably of pausing, the cop said it was sheltered to come ground floor. He at that point let us know, â€Å"I presently can't seem to see anybody; anyway the alert and the squad car presumably frightened him/her off.† â€Å"Thank you officer,† my mother answered, letting him out the entryway. The remainder of the night none of us could rest. My father went into the house with a concerned and stressed outward appearance. He at that point went right to disclosing to us how he saw a figure which appeared as though a man shrouded in all dark garments, hiding the area on his way home. The chills raced through my arms and down my back. I felt just as I was undependable anyplace and I couldn’t ever overlook the second and how I felt in that time. Everything around me appeared to be not able to ensure me. In the event that the cop couldn’t put him in the slammer, who could? I could see the goose pimples on Cara’s arms also. Her eyes became huge and her face turned pale like she saw a phantom. I attempted to adapt to that these kinds of things occur, however it was very much for me. I had a go at convincing myself to acknowledge he presumably wouldn’t be back, whoever it was. Perhaps there wasn’t anyone all things considered. Unfortunately, regar dless of how diligently I attempted to think on the positive side; the dread continued crawling over into my psyche; murmuring to me horrible thoughts which caused me to feel risky and frightened. I thought I’d never defeat this second in my life which transformed into a deterrent for me to jump over. I had this dread of dozing around evening time without my father home. I had this dread of no assurance. I had this dread of continually stressing what's on the horizon. I had this dread of life in general.I was continually watching the caution around evening time trusting that the green catch will turn red, and make this excluded sound of what appeared to be an endless shout of fear. Nonetheless, later in that week I had conversed with my mother about it. She had instructed me that so as to defeat this dread I needed to confront the suspicion that awful things occur, and I can’t let it hinder how I live. I understood I couldn’t live like that any longer. Life is dreadfully delicate to live in dread of what was to come straightaway.

Veil of Incorporation and Predicament of OHS Solutions

Question: (1)Write a concise clarification concerning why the executives obligation to forestall bankrupt exchanging exists and the conditions and outcomes of the cloak of joining being lifted for indebted exchanging? (2) From what you are aware of OHS Solutions pickle, DISCUSS whether any of the chiefs might be going to break or have just penetrated the obligation to forestall indebted exchanging. (So as to do this you should look at what's going on in OHS Solutions case with other point of reference cases and allude to the significant segments in the Corporations Act.) What will you exhort Ying? Answer: (1) Section 588G of the Corporation Act, 2001 states the obligation on the chiefs to guarantee that the organization is dissolvable particularly in those situations when the obligation is brought about by the organization (Thomson Reuters, 2015). The executives need to forestall bankrupt exchanging by the organization. It is said that this obligation forced on the chiefs is made so as to ensure the unbound lenders of the organization (Ramsay I, 2000). The executives have been offered with this duty towards the organization. This will be said to have been penetrated in the accompanying circumstances: At the point when the organization is bankrupt or becomes wiped out on account of the obligation; There were sensible grounds to accept that the organization is wiped out or will get bankrupt The executives know about the way that the organization is bankrupt or prone to be wiped out (Comasters, 2003). The executive will be said to have penetrated the obligation under Section 588G when he realizes that the organization is bankrupt or will get indebted and acquires obligation. The executives have been given the privilege under segment 588G to forestall ruined exchanging and on the off chance that the equivalent is penetrated the chiefs reserve the option to make vital cases. On the off chance that the chief realizes that the organization is indebted and is acquiring obligation at that point Section 588M permits recouping the remuneration for harms experienced the executives. The lenders endure misfortune in such cases as the entire obligation or part obligation is unbound. The outlet will reserve the option to guarantee harms against the chief (Worrels, 2013). The chiefs of the organization are required to convey the matter of the organization with care and determination. The executives can't escape by expressing that they had no information about the way that the organization is ruined when the organization was acquiring obligation. On the off chance that they don't know about the money related capacities of the organization, at that point they have not obliged their obligation of conveying due ingenuity and care. In the current contextual investigation the chiefs are likewise the investors of the organization and they are completely at risk for the activities they have embraced (Research Matic, 2013). The chiefs know about the way that the organization has an enormous measure of obligation due and in the event that it acquires another obligation, at that point it will get ruined. This will not be suggested by the executives of the organization. When the organization is enlisted it is a different legitimate individual than its individuals. Its liabilities are independent from the liabilities of its individuals. The court obviously expresses that the individuals will not be held subject for any liabilities of the organization regardless of what position or job they hold in the organization. This was plainly expressed on account of Saloman v Saloman Co. Ltd (1897, HL). The organization has been shaped under the Companies Act and has a different lawful element. Mr. Saloman acts just as a specialist of the organization. The proprietorship and the board of the organization don't go connected at the hip. It was concluded that it is essential that the made sure about banks of the organization are paid before the unbound loan bosses of the organization. This is a prime instance of lifting the corporate cloak. Lifting of shroud of joining for ruined exchanging was made to build the degree of obligation on the executives for the choic e they make influencing antagonistically to the lenders. At the point when the executives of the organization are likewise investors of the organization then the leasers may connect risk to the chiefs of the organization by lifting the corporate shroud. For the situation concentrate all the executives Des, Emma, Satish and Ying-chief of Support Pty. Ltd are investors of the organization and consequently as the organization is in effect ineffectively oversaw which is making the organization move towards bankruptcy they will be obligated towards the installment to lenders of the organization. In such a case if any choice is taken which causes the leasers to feel that their debt without collateral would be in question in view of the choice it will lift the corporate shroud. The equivalent has additionally been outlined on account of Adam v Cape, where the Court of Appeal held that the corporate shroud will just be lifted where the organization has disguised the substantiates realities. The reason for lifting of corporate cloak ought to be the point at which the equity has not been allowed or trick or misrepresentation exists (Ramsay I, 2000). The court will lift the corporate cloak of fuse when the organization has been made to be utilized for exploitative or unfair reason. Additionally delineated on account of Gilford Motor Co. Ltd v. Home [1933] Ch 935 (CA), where the litigant was the overseeing chief of the organization and was managed by a pledge that he will not move toward the current customers after his end of administrations. In the wake of leaving the organization he began another organization with his significant other and moved toward similar customers of his prior business. This isn't right utilization of his contacts. The primary target lifting the corporate shroud is to forestall the assurance of constrained liabilities being wrongly utilized and to lessen extortion and hoax. The idea of lifting the corporate cover applies just to those individuals who have really damaged the principles and made such a circumstance (Law Teacher, 2003). It is for the security of those gatherings who have a trust relationship with the organization. (2) All the executives of the organization know the way that the organization, OHS Solutions, has gotten ruined as it discovers an enormous record from Trouble Shooters that was past due. Presently however Ying realizes that the administration of the organization isn't progressing nicely and that OHS arrangements could be bought, it isn't lawful for Ying to get into such an exchange. As, Ying is the executive of the organization she has the obligation to not engage in any sort of exchanging realizing that the organization is indebted. This is against Section 588G of the Corporation Act, 2001. In addition, Support Pty. Ltd. is likewise an underwriter for the obligation taken by OHS Solutions thus can't accepting OHS arrangements. On the off chance that any of the chiefs, to be specific, Des, Emma, Satish and Ying engage in any exchanging movement when OHS is wiped out they will penetrate their obligation as an executive. Till now they have not penetrated any of their obligation as the y lack associated with any exchanging movement since the opportunity they came to realize that OHS has gotten wiped out. All the business exchanges are done before assertion of organization being wiped out was made. The executives will carry out criminal offense in the event that they do any off-base movement to bring about obligation. The primary reason for forcing this obligation on the executive is to expand the duty of the chief and to ensure the prosperity of the investors of the organization (PWC, 2011). Chiefs are viewed as in the like situation in the organization where he thinks about the undertakings of the organization thus the organization considers different components like the size of the organization, the kind of the business, assignment of capacities and obligations, conveyance of work, ability zone and so forth. In an organization the official chiefs take cooperation in everyday administration of the organization and should think about the money related situation of the organization though if there should arise an occurrence of non-official executives, they are not engaged with the everyday working and by and large depend on the data given to them on different events and structures like executive gathering, different notification or plans and so forth. Like on account of Metal Manufactures Ltd v Lewis (1988) 6 ACLC 725, there were just two chiefs of the organization, Primary Metals and Resources Pty Ltd; in particular, Mr. furthermore, Mrs. Lewis (the organization). In September 1993 the organization went into an agreement with the offended party. In the later stage the organization didn't oblige by the properly marked agreement which prompted grant of harms against the organization. The offended party later found that the organization was provided requests to wrap up the organization in Sep tember, 1984. Knowing this reality the offended party sued both the chiefs based on exchanging when the organization was ruined under Section 556 of Companies (NSW) Code. The case was finished up by expressing that there were just two chiefs in the organization in which Mr. Lewis was the overseeing executive of the organization and in view of his situation in the organization he will be esteemed to have gone into an agreement for the benefit of the organization with the offended party. At the point when the agreement was entered the organization was not in acceptable monetary conditions to take care of its obligations. Mrs. Lewis was not associated with the everyday working of the organization and she was in the organization assigned as an executive just for the marking reason. She had no information about the obligation due on the organization and at whatever point she checked out a similar she was told by Mr. Lewis to not engage in the equivalent. Mrs. Lewis was not the slightest bit related or mindful about the obligation states of the organization. Mr. Lewis didn't challenge obligation under segment 556 of the Companies (NSW) Code and acknowledged with the judgment passed though Mrs. Lewis raised for safeguard under area 556(2)(a) and she got achievement in the preliminary. A request was settled on against the choice went for Mrs. Lewis which was excused by the Court of advance expressing that the intrigue is dismissed and the choice taken under preliminary is right. It is reasoned that the quiet chiefs of the organization will not be subject for causing obligation taken by the overseeing executives where they had no task to carry out in taking the choice of raising or acquiring obligation. For this situation the quiet chief will not be held obligated (Law of Association). In the ca

All of these factors make it nearly impossible to determine an exact time hydromorphone will show up on a drug test since it may be different for everyone. Age Older adults can take longer than younger adults to metabolize and eliminate the drug. Metabolism Your metabolic rate plays a role in the detection time of hydromorphone. Liver and Kidney Function People with liver or renal impairment tend to have longer elimination half-lives. Dosage Hydromorphone comes in an extended-release form, which can impact the amount of time it takes for your body to metabolize the drug. How to Get Hydromorphone Out of Your System The best way to get hydromorphone out of your system is to stop using the drug so your body has time to process and eliminate it. That said, its best to work with your doctor to taper off hydromorphone and avoid unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal. Symptoms of Overdose The extended-release form of hydromorphone is used to relieve severe pain around the clock in people who need continuous pain relief. In order to avoid a possible accidental overdose, make sure you take your medication at the same time every day. As a form of morphine, too much hydromorphone of any dosage can cause deep sleep and can slow your respiration. If more of the drug is taken before its completely metabolized out of your system, an overdose can occur. Follow your doctors instructions carefully. Even when taken as directed, hydromorphone can cause serious or life-threatening breathing problems, especially during the first 24 to 72 hours after you begin taking the medication or after an increase in dosage. If you take the extended-release tablet, be sure to swallow it whole. Crushing, chewing, or dissolving the tablet causes the medication to be released quickly in your body instead of slowly over 24 hours, which can cause breathing difficulties or even lead to death. Some of the symptoms of a hydromorphone overdose include:?? Difficulty breathingSlowed or stopped breathingExcessive sleepinessDizzinessFaintingLimp or weak musclesNarrowing or widening of the pupilsCold, clammy skinSlow or stopped heartbeatBlue color of skin, fingernails, lipsLoss of consciousness or coma If you believe a loved one has overdosed on hydromorphone, call for emergency help immediately. How and Why Narcan Is Used to Treat Pain Medication Overdoses Dangerous Interactions Certain medications can change the way hydromorphone affects your body by increasing, decreasing, or prolonging the effects.?? It is very important to discuss all prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbs that you are taking with your doctor or pharmacist so they can advise you and adjust your prescriptions properly for safety. Specific medications that interact with hydromorphone (Dilaudid) include:?? MAO inhibitorsBenzodiazepinesBlood pressure medicineDiuretics (water pills)AntidepressantsPhenothiazineSt. Johns wortTryptophan You must not drink alcohol, use any medications that contain alcohol, or use illegal drugs while taking hydromorphone because these all increase your risk of serious side effects or a fatal overdose. If you suddenly stop taking it after you have been taking it for several days, you are likely to go through withdrawal, which can be dangerous. Only reduce your hydromorphone when advised to do so by your doctor and follow the schedule provided. Symptoms of hydromorphone (Dilaudid) withdrawal include:?? About Biomythography Zami a New Spelling of My Name

Zami: A New Spelling of My Name is a memoir by feminist poet Audre Lorde. It recounts her childhood and coming of age in New York City, her early experiences with feminist poetry and her introduction to the women’s political scene. The story meanders through school, work, love and other eye-opening life experiences. Although the overarching structure of the book lacks definitiveness, Audre Lorde takes care to examine the layers of female connection as she remembers her mother, sisters, friends, co-workers and lovers—women who helped shape her. Biomythography The â€Å"biomythography† label, applied to the book by Lorde, is interesting. In Zami: A New Spelling of My Name, Audre Lorde does not stray far from normal memoir structure. The question, then, is how accurately she describes events. Does â€Å"biomythography† mean that she is embellishing her tales, or is it a comment on the interplay of memory, identity, and perception? The Experiences, the Person, the Artist Audre Lorde was born in 1934. Her stories of her youth include the beginning of World War II and a fair amount of political awakening. She writes of vivid impressions remembered from childhood, from first-grade teachers to neighborhood characters. She sprinkles snippets of journal entries and fragments of poetry in between some of the stories. One long stretch of Zami: A New Spelling of My Name treats the reader to a view of the lesbian bar scene of New York City during the 1950s. Another portion explores factory working conditions in nearby Connecticut and the limited job options for a young black woman who had not yet gone to college or learned to type. By exploring women’s literal roles in these situations, Audre Lorde invites the reader to ponder other more esoteric, emotional roles played by women in their lives. The reader also learns about Audre Lorde’s time spent in Mexico, the beginnings of writing poetry, her first lesbian relationships and her experience with abortion. The prose is mesmerizing at certain points, and always promising as it dips in and out of the rhythms of New York that helped shape Audre Lorde into the prominent feminist poet she became. Feminist Timeline Although the book was published in 1982, this story tapers off around 1960, so there is no recounting in Zami of Audre Lorde’s rise to poetry fame or her involvement in 1960s and 1970s feminist theory. Instead, the reader gets a rich account of the early life of a woman who â€Å"became† a famous feminist. Audre Lorde lived a life of feminism and empowerment before the women’s liberation movement became a nationwide media phenomenon. Audre Lorde and others of her age were laying the groundwork for a renewed feminist struggle throughout their lives. Tapestry of Identity In a 1991 review of  Zami, critic Barbara DiBernard wrote, in the Kenyon Review, In  Zami  we find an alternative model of female development as well as a new image of the poet and of female creativity. The image of the poet as black lesbian encompasses continuity with a familial and herstorical past, community, strength, woman-bonding, rootedness in the world, and an ethic of care and responsibility. The image of a connected artist-self who is able to identify and draw on the strengths of women around her and before her is an important image for all of us to consider. What we learn may be as significant for our individual and collective survival as it has been for Audre Lorde. The artist as black lesbian challenges both pre-feminist and feminist ideas. Labels can be limiting. Is Audre Lorde a poet? A feminist? Black? Lesbian? How does she construct her identity as a black lesbian feminist poet native to New York whose parents come from the West Indies? Zami: A New Spelling of My Name offers insight into the thoughts behind overlapping identities and the overlapping truths that go along with them. Selected Quotes from Zami Every woman I have ever loved has left her print upon me, where I loved some invaluable piece of myself apart from me—so different that I had to stretch and grow in order to recognize her. And in that growing, we came to separation, that place where work begins.A choice of pains. Thats what living was all about.I wasnt cute or passive enough to be femme, and I wasnt mean or tough enough to be butch. I was given a wide berth. Non-conventional people can be dangerous, even in the gay community.I remember how being young and Black and gay and lonely felt. A lot of it was fine, feeling I had the truth and the light and the key, but a lot of it was purely hell. Edited and new content added by Jone Johnson Lewis.

John Stuart Mill s Profound Work On Liberty - 2193 Words

In John Stuart Mill’s profound work On Liberty, he preaches against the conformity of the nations and outwardly encourages and restlessly defends voice of the individual. The philosopher expresses the importance of individuality by warning against forces such as the government and other citizens silencing their opinion. Though Mill gives due recognition to virtues such as free speech, liberty, and individualism, he also rightly places limitations on our freedoms to ensure that they do not infringe upon the ones of those around us. In essence, I believe that Mill’s insightfully provides a logical answer to society on how to live and how to allow others to live; freely unless harm will ensue. By Mill s statement that, â€Å"[i]f all mankind minus one were of one opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind† one can gain insights into the assumptions his argument is gro unded upon, his justification for these assumptions, the limitations that should rightly be placed on free speech, and my overall opinion on Mill’s argument on free speech. Assumptions are by definition â€Å"an idea or notion† that is outwardly known and accepted as the truth (â€Å"Assumptions†). Mill places his argument for free speech on a basis of numerous assumptions, one of which is utility. This is an assumption of Mill’s argument because he does not question that allowing others to speak freely is useful. Artemis Fowl Book Report Free Essays

He had devised a plan that would restore his family’s fortune, a plan that could people civilizations and plunge the planet into a cross species war. Was at Ho Chi Mini City waiting for our contact Guan Unguent accompanied by Butler. As we waited Guan walked up to us dressed as a waiter. We will write a custom essay sample on Artemis Fowl Book Report or any similar topic only for you Order Now Obvious. Handmade loafers, a silk shirt, three gold signet rings. Pathetic really. Only to check for weapons. Who does he think I am? I told him that I was unarmed but for fun I told him about Butler. How he had tons of weapons and how he could kill him even without them. It was hilarious. He looked as if he were going to cry. Finally he told us to look at a picture he had. It was a wrinkly green hand. Guan then told us that she is a healer that works in exchange for rice wine. She was always drunk. He led us to a fire escape in Tu Do Street. I asked Butler for the night vision goggles. Inside I saw the green old hag. She asked for wine. Butler gave her the Irish whiskey. It was the same wrinkly green hand. I told Butler to give Guan the money. Finally things were going according to plan. She asked me if had anything that needed healing. I told her only wanted her book. She threatened to kill me. I told her that I would save her if she gave me the book. She gave me a questioning look. Perhaps the affects of the holy water hadn’t darted yet. Told her about it and she said I murdered her. Then she started listening to what I had to say. Told her that we had two vials: #1 a vial of spring water from the fairy well sixty meters below Tara, Ireland the most magical place on the Earth, it would counteract the holy water and #2 a booster with a virus that feeds on alcohol which will flush every drop of rice wine out of her body. She asked me how could I trust you. That was a good question. Sometimes I can’t even trust myself. I had to say something so I told her that I would give her the first vial on faith and the second one after am even the book for at least 30 minutes. Butler gave her the first shot with the syringe gun then she gave me the book. I took my camera and took a picture of every page of the characters then gave it back and Butler injected the second vial, we left immediately. A century’s worth of alcohol leaving the body isn’t a pretty sight. When we got home I checked on mum. Sleeping like a baby. If she had recovered I would have to cancel everything and go to school. I went to my room uploading the files into my computer. It was a mixture of symbols and characters they were all around the page in no regular order. I printed all the ages and tacked them to the wall. First I needed a central point language so I started with English, Chinese, Arabic, Greek, Cyrillic, and even Gingham texts. There was still nothing. Was frustrated; none of the characters had a match. I thought hard and remembered the only base language didn’t try: Egyptian. Finally a hit. The computer didn’t show anything so I would have to get every Gnomish figure and compare it with the hieroglyphics. At midnight when I was done I fed my findings into the Macintosh. I pressed decode. Papers of meaningless gibberish came flowing out. Now all I had to do was find out the order it was written in. The Arabic right to left, no, the Chinese columns, no. Nothing worked. Then I noticed a tiny dot in the middle Of each page with arrows around it Then I knew that it was read in spirals. I typed spiral on the read menu and the letters came out in lines, finally. This was it. The Book of the People. Being Instructions to our Magic’s And Life Rules. Carry me always, carry me well. Am thy teacher of herb and spell am thy link to power arcane. Forget me and thy magic will wane. Ten times ten commandments there be. They will answer every mystery. Cures, curses, alchemy. These secrets shall be thin, through me. But fairy remember this above all. Am not for those in mud that crawl. And forever doomed shall be the one, who betrays my secrets one by one†¦ Finally the book was translated and read. Now it was time for the thing I do best; plot dastardly acts. After a few hours I called Butler and Juliet(Butler’s sister) into the room. I told them that according to the book, all we have to do is stakeout at an ancient tree at a full moon at a river bend. Juliet questioned me about fairies and how they weren’t real, that got me thinking that all this work could be for nothing, but again the book proved quite promising. I told Juliet to get a cage into the cellar. We had over 100 places to try, it wouldn’t be as easy as I thought. Four months of searching, not a hit. After 1 hour of waiting the proximity alarms flashed red someone was here. Hacked the scope and saw a figure bending down beside a tree. It was a possible fairy picking up a seat. In the bushes I saw Butler hold the dart pistol with the red dot pointed at her neck. Butler pulled the trigger, but out of a million odds she ducked again. Now she noticed she was under fire, we would have to do this manually. Butler was already ahead of the game and started to ta unt the fairy. New that it was my turn so I started to scare the fairy. Butler stood behind her preparing a second tranquilizer dart while stalled her. Finally Butler shot her in the back and took her helmet. I couldn’t believe how human the fairy looked. When We got TO Fowl Manor I examined the helmet and found a small tracking device. Of course they be following us now. Or they be following the tracker at least. I told Butler to get the car. It’s time for road trip number 2. When we got too the dock I told Butler we needed a diversion. Butler nodded then I went to the nearest whaler and dumped the tracker inside. I put a mob there also to whoever was tracking it down. When got back to the car Butler was still fighting some men. Felt sorry for them. Even I don’t want to pick a fight with him. After he finished he came to the car and we drove back to Fowl Manor. Went to our prisoner in a cage in the basement. It was time to taunt her once again. Told her, her name: Holly Short, rank: Captain and the rules in the house. Finally she asked how knew these things. I was surprised. It seemed like she didn’t know she had a name tag on her. Told her I was aiming for gold. She again asked how do we know everything. Knew that couldn’t tell err had the book so I told her we gave her a truth serum and she told us everything. She went to a corner thinking how had she had betrayed her people. Aft and went to Butler who was monitoring the cameras. Nothing yet. I told Butler to try the avenue and freeze the picture. He did and five black figures appeared on the screen. I handed him a bigger helmet that had several filters that allowed him to see shielded fairies. Butler went outside to take care of them. Before he left I told him to get the head to talk with better scared th an dead. After a few minutes Butler came back with a handful of technology and left or preparation for my special visitor. They’d put a time stop on Fowl Manor. Seconds later the clock stopped and an unshielded figure stepped onto the lawn. The game was just beginning. Came to the front door and allowed him to come in. Told him that in return for the captain that I wanted a ton often-carat gold. He told me that he was going to kill us all with a bomb that I already knew of. I told him I could escape it. He was bewildered. He told me that nobody could escape the bio bomb, and then he left. After he left I went straight to the surveillance room and I noticed that Butler wasn’t going around doing his rounds. Diode butler and asked him what was he doing. Social Media Marketing Plan

Monitoring In social media, monitoring refers to the method of tracking, measuring and evaluating the marketing activities of a company’s on the social platform. From the definition, monitoring has various components as discussed under tracking, measuring, evaluating and tools used for monitoring on the social media (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013).Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on Social Media Marketing Plan specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Tracking Tracking refers to the method of finding and following details on the social media. The key to proper tracking plan is to acquire the relevant watchwords and phrases to get relevant information (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). As such, a tracking plan ought to bring to mind the best watchwords, the greatest social media and catch words that easily connect with the target group. If the plan does not yield the desired goals, it should be e asy to manipulate searches (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). Measuring The methods applied in measuring the impact of social media marketing remain debatable but various stakeholders agree that the field is quickly growing (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). Consequently, various measuring methodologies, tools and metrics are in place. However, much of the debate and innovations build on qualitative techniques at the expense of the quantitative techniques, as qualitative analysis seems easier to interpret (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). The results of social media marketing regarding qualitative goals like increasing brand knowledge and loyalty are long-term by default (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). It takes time to get loyal customers on the social platform but these efforts eventually bear fruits. However, such fruits must be measurable both qualitatively and quantitatively through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as discussed below. Key Performance Indicators (KIPs) These refer to a combination of determinable standards used by a firm to measure or collate performance aimed at meeting the firm’s objectives. Qualitative KPIs are descriptive, include such indicators like customer satisfaction while quantitative KPIs are measureable, and include such indicators like percentage increase in profits, customers among other indicators (Smart KPIs.com, 2013).Advertising Looking for research paper on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Evaluation Evaluation derives from key performance indicators since it is the method of construing gathered and gauged information to acquire insights from the information (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). Evaluation serves to generate a deep description on whether the social media marketing activities succeed or fail to achieve the desired goals. Several free monitoring tools are available on the internet and they in clude Google Trends, Google Reader among others (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). Budget Social media marketing is a new concept and there is no standard budget set for media marketing. However, a survey carried out by Altimeter Group revealed that companies spent between 66,000 US dollars and 1,364,000 US dollars depending on the age and size of the company (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). Return on Investment The company should be in a position to determine if the ratios regarding return on investment are positive or negative. A positive ratio depicts a return while a negative ratio shows a loss. Return on investment results from deducting costs from sales and breaking down the result by the expenses (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher, 2013). It is hard to measure return on investment in the social media since most goals are qualitative by nature. Experts have come up with proxy ROI that measure the long-term results of media marketing (Barker, Barker, Bormann, Neher , 2013). References Barker, M. S., Barker, D. I., Bormann, N. F., Neher, K. 9 Pieces of Celebrity Advice That Will Inspire You to Succeed in 2017

9 Pieces of Celebrity Advice That Will Inspire You to Succeed in 2017 Love them, hate them, or roll your eyes when you see them make news for ridiculous things, famous people have something in common: they’re good at what they do, or you probably wouldn’t know who they are. And while you probably shouldn’t, say, take medical advice from George Clooney or legal advice from Justin Timberlake, it’s worth seeing what kind of celebrity advice they have to offer. As we look to the new year with its blank slate, let’s also look at how some household names in business, Hollywood, and politics approach career, success, and life balance. On Finding Purpose and DirectionOne of the first things you should do in the new year is figure out what you  want your  goals to be. To do that, it’s important to figure out what motivates you, and what you really want to be doing with your professional life. A new year is a chance to take a look at what motivates you now, because that may not be the same thing that motivated you in the past. Take the opportunity to look at who you are now, and what forces are moving you forward.â€Å"Stop chasing the money and start chasing the passion. - Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zapposâ€Å"’May the Force be with you’ is charming but it’s not important. What’s important is that you become the Force- for yourself and perhaps for other people.† - Harrison Ford, actorOn Being Your Own Biggest AssetNot to get all sappy on you, but your best ally in this process is, well, you. Networks are important, but as you get ready to ramp up your career in the new year, make sure you’re putting enough value and emphasis on the skills, experience, and expertise that you already have. 2017 should be a year of moving forward with confidence, not stalling out due to self-doubt.â€Å"Don’t discount yourself, no matter what you’re doing. Everyone has a unique perspective that they can bring to the world. Just have faith in yourself and trust yo urself.† - Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of FacebookOn Achieving SuccessSuccess is not an instant result, no matter who you are or what you do. People who achieve that success have gotten there because they stuck it out, and threw everything they had at the process. CEOs, entertainers, thinkers†¦the version of â€Å"success† is different for each of them, but they have one thing in common: effort + time.â€Å"When I was 15, I left school to start a magazine, and it became a success because I wouldn’t take no for an answer.† - Richard Branson, CEO of the Virgin Groupâ€Å"There’s no such thing as overnight success. That’s my concern with a show like American Idol. It encourages the false belief that there’s a kind of magic, that you can be ‘discovered.’ That may be the way television works, but it’s not the way the world works. Rising to the top of any field requires an enormous amount of dedication, focus, drive, talen t, and 99 factors that they don’t show on television. It’s not simply about being picked. Which, by the way, is why very few of the anointed winners on American Idol have gone on to true success. Most have flamed out and gone away. That should tell us something.† - Malcolm Gladwell, authorâ€Å"Success is just a war of attrition. Sure, there’s an element of talent you should probably possess. But if you just stick around long enough, eventually something is going to happen.† - Dax Shepard, actorâ€Å"Do the work. Out-work. Out-think. Out-sell your expectations. There are no shortcuts.† - Mark Cuban, entrepreneurOn Why You Should Never Give UpIf you give up on your goals because you’re seeing too many challenges or it feels too hard, no one is going to run up to you, shouting, â€Å"come back! Just kidding, here’s what you want.† Once you figure out what you want to achieve and start devising your plan to get there, itâ₠¬â„¢s crucial to stick to that, whether things get tough or are taking longer than you thought they would. You’re tougher than you think you are, so don’t let setbacks deter you from those bigger goals.â€Å"I’m very glad my mother didn’t let me quit piano lessons at age 10. She said I wasn’t old enough or good enough to make that decision, and she was right. I remember at the time I was shocked. I did not like that my mother said those things to me. But when I got a chance to play with Yo-Yo Ma or more recently with Aretha Franklin, I thought, I’m really glad she said what she did.† - Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of StateOn Seizing OpportunitiesIn 2017, be ready to size up and grab potential opportunities. Do research, talk to people in your network, and always keep an eye out for new jobs, new skill-building opportunities, anything that can help you along the way. If you’re not proactive, you’ll either miss poten tial opportunities entirely, or watch them slip right by you and turn into someone else’s chances.â€Å"People ask, ‘What’s the best role you’ve ever played?’ The next one.† - Kevin Kline, actorâ€Å"Put your head down and work hard. Never wait for things to happen make them happen for yourself through hard graft and not giving up.† - Gordon Ramsay, chef, entrepreneur, and TV personalityâ€Å"If I can’t make it through one door, I’ll go through another door- or I’ll make a door. Something terrific will come no matter how dark the present is.† - Joan Rivers, comedianâ€Å"I feel that luck is preparation meeting opportunity.† - Oprah Winfrey, entrepreneur and world dominatorOn Why It’s Okay to FailNobody likes failure- but it’s inevitable at some point. You know that song â€Å"Everybody Hurts,† by R.E.M.? The career version of it is, â€Å"everybody flops, sometimes.† Itâ₠¬â„¢s going to happen, it’s going to hurt, and you should be ready to take that failure and learn from it so you can keep moving forward. Don’t let minor failures derail your year of progress.â€Å"Failure is not the opposite of success; it’s a stepping stone to success.† - Arianna Huffington, founder of The Huffington Postâ€Å"Failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged.† - J.K. Rowling, authorOn Overcoming Career Obstacles2017 will have obstacles. That’s non-negotiable. But when you’re faced with those challenges, don’t let them stop your progress. Instead, ask yourself how they can factor into your journey.â€Å"When faced with sexism or ageism or lookism or even really aggressive Buddhism, ask yourself the following question, ‘Is this person between me and what I want to do?'† - Tina Fey, comedian and writerOn Why Being a Lone Wolf Doesn’t WorkIf you think your 2017 journey is all about you, you’re mistaken. You are the most important piece of it, yes. But being a good team member, and knowing when to rely on others is a skill that you should start practicing as early in the year as possible. It’s not just that others can help you directly (although many can); it’s just as much learning what you can from others to apply to your own professional life.â€Å"What I have discovered, is this: You can’t do it alone. As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people’s ideas are often better than your own. Find a group of people who challenge and inspire you, spend a lot of time with them, and it will change your life.† - Amy Poehler, comedian and writerâ€Å"I look for a positive attitude and are they easy to work with, are people gonna like working with them? It’s very important to like the people you work with, otherwise life [and] your job is gonna be quite miserable.† - Elon Musk, entrepreneur and CEO of Tesla Motors and SpaceXâ€Å"The best advice I ever got is: You’re the average of the five people you associate with the most.† - Tim Ferriss, author and entrepreneurOn Achieving Balance While Pursuing Your GoalsIf you have some aggressive professional goals in 2017 (new job, promotion, new approach to your existing job), don’t let those crowd out everything in your life. Making room for your personal growth, development, and happiness is just as essential. This may involve some creative thinking and sacrifices, but when you get to the other side of 2017, you don’t want to be thinking, â€Å"I wish I’d made time for thi ngs that make me happy.†Ã¢â‚¬Å"Believe you can do anything. This is important for everyone and especially for women. Don’t let anyone tell you can’t have both a meaningful professional career and a fulfilling personal life. When you hear someone say you can’t do something, know that you can and start figuring out how. Ask yourself, ‘What would I do if I weren’t afraid?’† - Sheryl Sandberg, COO of FacebookAs you gear up for 2017 and the banner career year you’re going to have (whether you’re looking for new opportunities or working on growing in the role you already have), think about these bits of advice given by people who’ve reached the top of their fields. And more importantly, think about how you can make these recommendations work for you, and seize your next great opportunity!

Top 10 Grammatical and Spelling Errors of 2013

Top 10 Grammatical and Spelling Errors of 2013 It’s that time of year again! This year I will address some of the top grammatical and spelling errors specifically found on resumes and business documents, both of which constitute a large portion of what I read. Here’s the list: #10 Inconsistencies in Bulleted Lists If you make a list of bulleted items, whether it be on a resume or on a website, make them consistent in terms of the part of speech you start with. Bullets that start with the words Provide, Assess, Ensure, and Designing are not parallel; nor are bullets that start with Creates, Teaches, Organized, and Fulfills. Perhaps the inconsistent word jumps off the page when listed this way, but I see mismatched bullets in many types of documents every day. Check your bulleted lists carefully! #9 Manager/Manger According to Wikipedia, a â€Å"manger† is â€Å"a feeder that is made of carved stone, wood, or metal construction and is used to hold food for animals (as in a stable).† A â€Å"manager,† in contrast, is a person in a professional setting who supervises a person or team. Don’t mix them up on your resume, or in your Christmas greetings ;-). #8 Principal/Principle â€Å"Principal† is an adjective meaning first, highest, or foremost in importance, rank, worth, or degree; or of, relating to, or being financial principal, or a principal in a financial transaction. It can also be a noun meaning a person with a leading role, or one who holds a position of presiding rank or who is a main participant in a situation. â€Å"Principle,† in contrast, is a basic truth, tenet or assumption. I realize this spelling distinction can be hard to remember. One trick I use to keep them straight is to think, â€Å"You’re my #1 pal† and know that the word ending in â€Å"pal† relates to someone or something that is #1. #7 PowerPoint/Powerpoint It’s a common error to miss the capital P in the middle of PowerPoint. Be careful when listing any computer programs on your resume to spell them correctly! #6 Set up/Setup â€Å"Set up† is a verb meaning to set something up or put something in a specified state. Notice that there is a word in between â€Å"set† and â€Å"up† in the definition of â€Å"set up,† which you can think of as being substituted with a space. You must set *something* (_) up. â€Å"Setup,† however, is a noun meaning the process of preparing something to be used. You might set up the menus in a restaurant if you work there, but you would go to a setup menu to get a computer program ready for use. #5 Inconsistent Dashes If you use dashes in between start and end dates on your resume, or between any items in a document, use the same length dash for every similar set of text! I almost always see inconsistencies, especially on resumes, and they appear unprofessional. Don’t write June 2011-July 2013 in one spot and August 2010- June 2011 in another. #4 Apostrophes This issue makes the list for the third year in a row. Main point: Creating a plural doesn’t require an apostrophe. One client, two clients. To make a singular word possessive, add an apostrophe ‘s’: e.g., I wrote one client’s resume today. To make a plural word possessive, add an apostrophe after the ‘s’: e.g., I reviewed 5 clients’ records and discovered errors in 3 of them. See Top 7 Grammatical and Spelling Errors of 2012 and Top 10 Grammatical and Spelling Errors of 2011 for more on this topic. #3 Everyday/Every day This is a repeat topic as well. Everyday is an adjective meaning â€Å"common† or â€Å"day-to-day.† Every day means â€Å"daily† or â€Å"each and every day.† Want to learn a trick to remember which is which? See Common Grammatical Errors: Everyday vs. Every Day. #2 Lead/Led The absolute most common spelling error on resumes is the use of â€Å"lead,† meant to be the past tense of â€Å"lead.† The past tense of the verb â€Å"to lead† is â€Å"led†! I would love to see this error disappear from the resume writing world. #1 Two spaces after a period! Sure there are people who still argue that two spaces after a period is acceptable, but I have been fully converted! I have trained my fingers and my eyes to put one space after each period, and I’m attempting to train my clients to â€Å"get with the program† as well. If it’s good enough for the Chicago Manual of Style, it’s good enough for me! Have a happy, healthy, and grammatically correct new year. And remember, I’m always open to hearing your suggestions for my 2014 list!

The doctrine of Parliamentary privilege has no place in a modern Essay

The doctrine of Parliamentary privilege has no place in a modern democratic society. Discuss - Essay Example To understand the magnitude of the doctrine in the modern political establishment, parliamentary privilege can be illustrated to be synonymous with parliamentary system. Even if debate for its review and in extreme debates its abolition persist, it is an issue that cannot be abandoned just in the heat of the arguments. The following discourse explores the possibilities of abandoning the doctrine based on some of its principles, in light of their appropriateness in a modern democracy. Parliamentary privilege and it purpose Parliamentary privilege according to legal experts is the immunity accorded some legislators whereby the legislators enjoy legal protection against criminal or civil liability in the course of performing their legislative duties (BBC2 para 7)1. Essentially, the privilege makes it possible also for parliament to debate or question issues that could interfere with court ongoing judicial proceedings in a case, expose state secrets, undermine national security, scour fo reign relations, and slander individuals – whether parliamentarians or not. The concept of parliamentary privilege has its roots in the Westminster system and is widely applied across the world. The privilege emerged as a direct result of the contentions that hundreds of years ago existed between the courts the Crown, and the House of Commons2 (Attorney General’s Department para 4). Some of the countries that apply the privilege to parliament other than Britain include Australia, the United Sates of America, Canada, and Kenya, in Africa. In the UK for example, such privileges allow members of the two Houses (House of Commons and House of Lords) to freely deliberate in their participation in parliament without fearing legal action based on claims of contravening the Official Secrets Act, contempt of court or slander. This privilege also assures parliamentarian that they are immune from civil arrests in matters undertaken within the precincts of parliament, in this case the Palace of Westminister3 according to the BBC1 (para 2). However this is conditional in that the members of parliament only enjoy this privilege if their statements are uttered as part of parliamentary proceeding. One such event that reinforces the application of parliamentary privilege in the United Kingdom is with respect to the Zircon affair as it threatened to reveal national secrets. Protection of the parliament against any form of interference while handling legislative obligations is by far a genuine reason for the existence of such freedom as accorded to parliamentarians (Limon 34). However, abuse of the privileges appears to be inseparable from the process of their enjoyment. The purpose of the privilege accorded to parliament rests within the context of legislative duties but other contingent intricacies of interpretation have always made efforts futile to identify balance the genuine purposes. Parliament has failed to implement the appropriate balance and checks that w ould facilitate the relevant procedures to be applied in determining parliamentary privilege usage as genuine or not. Democratic institutions need such control as would be necessary for their independence on one hand while their abuse is clearly identified and dealt with amicably on the other hand. Arguments against Parliamentary Privilege The basic rule that parliamentary privilege is intended to achieve is resolve issues bearing a matter that is of public interest

Individuals at work In what specific ways that an individual influences an organization There are three important leadership skills that an individual should have to be able to climb up to the management position. For example, goal settings, attitude and procedure management. According to (Maryellen Gibsons blog ) a manager that has a positive attitude will effect an entire team or company in an encouraging manner and a manager which has a negative attitude will affect the organization in a not so optimistic manner. Other than this, procedure management will help an organization to stay orderly and organized. For example, when there is a new project or task to be done, theres no need to make a whole new procedure just for that project. With proper procedure management an organization can save precious time and become more efficient. Lastly, the third leadership skill is to have a goal setting. A manager which has a clear mind set for his or her company is great for benefiting their company or organization because if there is a project the manager and his company will be able to know the result of the project. Blue Nile Case Study

Blue Nile Case Study Cristeen McPherson Student Number 326914 BUSA 506 Dr Terry Power November 11, 2012 1) The competitive forces confronting Blue Nile and other online retail jewellers are medium or weak in strength, with the exception of the strong rivalry between sellers. The potential for new entrants to the jewellery market is relatively low due to the high costs of inventory, the lack of differentiation of product and the brand recognition held by the industry leaders. Good substitute products for a quality diamonds are not readily available. There are synthetic gemstones, cubic zirconium and other jewellery options, but the general consumer does not see these as a true substitute for real diamonds. Supplier bargaining power is a mixture of strong and weak factors leaving this force with a medium impact on the industry. The diamond supply industry is more concentrated than the retailers but is having new entrants emerging. Like the Canadian diamond producers Ekati in 1998, Diavi k in 2003, Jericho in 2006 and Snap Lake-4 in 2007 making Canada now the third largest diamond producer in the world. 1] Two factors contributing to a stronger supplier power are that products are critical to the retailers’ success and there is a lack of good substitute products. In contrast, the commodity trading or buying process for diamonds contributes to a weaker supplier power as retailers have easy ability and low costs to switch suppliers. Industry members are also now integrating backwards into the supply of the product, Diavik mine is a joint venture between Rio Tinto and Harry Winston Diamond Corporation and the De Beers Group owns the Snap Lake-4 mine. [2] Buyer bargaining power is moderately strong due to: Low costs of switching between retailers ? Lack of differentiation of product between retailers – differentiation is more on quality provided than the style or presentation of the product ? Large and diverse consumer base ? Buyers ability to be well info rmed on product; information on quality, prices and costs is growing due to internet accessibility ? Buyers are price sensitive The strongest force is the rivalry between the competing retail sellers. Factors affecting competing rivalry: ? Buyer demand is growing slowly – jewellery market is mature, with a broad range of consumers ?Buyer demand had fallen off in recent years due to recession – many sellers found themselves with slow moving inventory ? Buyer costs to switch brands is low – the buyer has no costs to switch to another online retailer, it’s just a mouse click ? Products are weakly differentiated – diamonds and jewellery are similar offerings between the sellers ? High fixed or storage costs – the bricks and mortar (b&m) retailers and many of the online retailers have high inventory costs, which when not turning incur carrying costs (interest etc) negatively impacting cash flow and earnings ?High exit costs – the high inve ntory costs make it difficult to liquidate quickly ? Competitors are numerous – and diverse in their value proposition, with low value, high volume retailers like Walmart as well as high end prestigious retailers like Tiffany & Co. 2) Some key success factors that will affect the online jewellery retailers in the near future: Fine jewellery buyers are looking for a retailer that offers quality product at a competitive price. Retailers must rely on their brand recognition with consumers; they need to build awareness of their product offerings as well as their customer service.Retailers must prove they are reputable, reliable and trustworthy. Online retailers have to express this through capturing their online audience with an easy to navigate website, appealing to their emotional response and showing other consumers satisfaction and confidence with past purchases. Jewellery retailers must be able to provide exceptional customer service and support. Major purchases of jewellery items, especially a diamond engagement ring, are very emotional to the purchaser. Customer service that acknowledges the significance of the purchase and guides the purchaser hrough the transaction will be a necessity for success and gaining consumer loyalty. With the high costs of inventory, retailers need to manage costs of inventory and operations, keeping costs in line with sales and managing cash flow is a key capability for success. A successful retailer is able to match inventory purchases with their consumer sales at a similar rate, maintaining inventory turnover and cash flow through the business. Not updating and maintaining their awareness and a high level of market knowledge will put a retailer at a significant competitive disadvantage. If they are not recognizing the market trends, striving to achieve some product differentiation and preparing to meet customer needs and wants, they will fall behind and lose customer loyalty, sales and market share. 3) Blue Nile is emplo ying a best-cost provider strategy as their competitive approach in the online jewellery business. Their aim is to create competitive advantage by offering a quality product at a competitive price. Blue Nile is able to do this through their supplier agreements where the diamonds and other gems are not actually purchased by Blue Nile until they have a consumer order for that particular product. This limits Blue Nile’s exposure on inventory costs and the risk of non-selling product. Blue Nile also relies on strict control of their operating costs; expenses for employees, facilities and technology are continuously reviewed to ensure their efficiency and that low costs are maintained. These two components combine to allow Blue Nile to offer comparable quality jewellery at substantially lower prices than their competitors. 4) Blue Nile has a very deep and keen knowledge of their customer and market. This enables them to tailor their website to their customers’ needs, offer su perior service and educational aspects for the consumer, effectively establishing trust with their consumers. This knowledge also gave them the ability to strike very good supply agreements with multiple providers for the quality product they sell online. Many of the diamonds and other jewellery are only available via Blue Nile because of their exclusive supply contracts. In order to remain competitive, Blue Nile must be diligent in maintaining and updating their market knowledge. The ability to accurately predict market trends and proactively alter business strategy is vital to ongoing success. For instance, many of the online retailers are currently relying on their educational information to garner the customers trust and loyalty. With every retailer working to increase the knowledge of the consumer, this strategy will lose effectiveness over time as the consumer becomes more knowledgeable. The ease of switching retailers is very high and Blue Nile must be ready to offer another c ompelling reason to remain loyal.Blue Nile must also be aware of any changes in their suppliers and the diamond market, if new diamond suppliers reach similar supply agreements with any of Blue Nile’s competitors, they may lose their supply chain advantage and risk significant increases in inventory costs. 5) SWOT Analysis – Blue Nile – Table 1 [pic] Although Blue Nile has many company strengths that propel their current success, the many competitors in the online and b&m jewellery industry have many of the same strengths.Blue Nile needs to improve and expand their marketing campaign and strengthen their brand recognition. They also need to develop a program to offer more product differentiation. One suggestion to incorporate both these needs might be to develop a strategic alliance with a well-known jewellery designer and offer custom design service online using the designer name and reputation. 6) Blue Nile posted exceptional double-digit sales growth over the six years 2002-2007, the recession of 2008 interrupted their growth trend actualizing a 7. % loss on sales year over year. They have since achieved moderate sales increases ranging from 2. 3% to 10. 18%. Blue Nile shows a steady gross margin averaging about 21. 7% over the last ten years. They also show very steady levels of selling, general and administrative expenses that have a slight increase each year most likely due to inflation of salaries and input costs. Consequently, their EBT margin is also very healthy, averaging 7. 0% earnings return on sales. Blue Nile has large cash reserves and very little long-term iabilities, their liquidity ratios are very healthy. Their current ratio averages 1. 5:1 over the last ten years. With their cost control and supply chain management, Blue Nile has very positive results for the performance/efficiency ratios. Their cash conversion is excellent due to the payables terms of supplier agreements; they have a positive cash float of about 40 da ys from the collection of sales revenue to the payment for goods. 7) Weighted Competitive Strength Assessment – Table 2 Blue Nile does have enough strength to remain competitive against its rivals.Their main rival based on pricing, quality and market knowledge is JamesAllen. com. Blue Nile is the strongest in terms of cost control and inventory control/supply chain management. Currently Blue Nile does have a sustainable competitive advantage over its rivals. Their product offerings are very similar, as are their websites and customer service policies, but Blue Nile’s cost control is far superior giving the advantage of greater efficiency and lower costs as compared to the other online retailers. ) In order to develop a more sustainable competitive advantage; Blue Nile will need to use their market knowledge to develop a stronger marketing plan to drive their brand recognition, product differentiation and develop greater customer loyalty. Blue Nile also needs to address the future erosion of market share due to the growing strength of competitors, and the potential of the loss on exclusivity from their product suppliers. 9) Recommendations: [pic] The components of the marketing plan and the strategic alliance with a jewellery designer fit together very well and should be quite easy and quick for Blue Nile to develop and execute. The value that would be seen via the increased brand recognition, customer loyalty and product differentiation would increase their competitive strength and be sustainable for the near future. Blue Nile’s current geographic expansion has shown success, continued expansion will need to be founded on research into the jewellery customs of target locations, to use the website’s appeal to the emotional purchase of jewellery. Low costs of online expansion are advantageous, while care must be taken to ensure language and culture are respected.Selective expansion will help to retain competitive advantage for the medi um range future and grow market share internationally. With their keen market knowledge, Blue Nile is positioned to take advantage of the weaker competitors in their market and secure market share growth for the mid range future via acquisitions. The potential to acquire a competitor would take longer to evaluate completely but is still a viable option to gain large portions of market share and increased sales.Blue Nile does have positive cash flow, good cash reserves and available credit facility to use to accomplish the acquisition. While the strategic alliance with a diamond producer/mine would secure long-term guarantees of the supply of quality, exclusive product at very competitive costs, the timeline to complete such a project is lengthy. The cost could also be prohibitive to Blue Nile at this point in time. The potential for long-term sustainable competitive advantage is most beneficial with this strategy and Blue Nile should not rule this option out as a future long-term go al.Bibliography: CBC News, ‘Canada’s Diamond Rush’, http://www. cbc. ca/news/background/diamonds/, Last Updated September 20, 2007, accessed November 9, 2012 Case 9, ‘Blue Nile Inc. in 2010†¦. ’ Thompson, Arthur A. , Strickland, A. Compare and contrast the presentation of oppressionin I...

Compare and contrast the presentation of oppressionin I Am Not That Woman and Still I Rise. The poems I am studying are I Am Not That Woman by Kishwar Naheed and Still I Rise by Maya Angelou, both in the twentieth century. Both poets have based the poems on their own experiences of suppression in their different cultures and they both continue to end with feelings of hope. The poems show the different reactions and attitudes of two very different women who in similar circumstances. In I Am Not That Woman, the poet has been oppressed in her culture of the Asian society. By this she has been oppressed by the traditional values of the Eastern culture but especially by her father and husband. She is also trying to overcome†¦show more content†¦The poet seems bitter towards her father and husband. She seems strong because she has got through her problems so far and is angry and resentful about the whole situation. She seems adamant to not let it happen to her for much longer. The poet uses figurative language to help create imagery in the readers mind. An example of this is the metaphor is I am the one you hid in your walls of stone, where she means how her husband has literally and mentally locked her away, creating the picture of her trapped. To show that she had been pressurized of the Asian society of being forced to have an arranged marriage metaphors are also used here, crushed with the weight of custom and tradition. The poet even uses a biblical refere nce to help picture some of the imagery in the readers mind. This is where she says she is walking on water which is a reference to Jesus and miracles. When she mentions not knowing, she uses this to emphasize the ignorance given to her by her family and husband. She often repeats herself, such as not knowing. By doing this she is trying to get a point across effectively. By the repetition of not knowing she is trying to make them aware that although she has been locked away and that they are controlling her, she still knows things that they do not. The poet is trying to get the point of view across, that she is not the Eastern woman living in captivity, being told what to
